ENTERPRISE INFORMATION
The Open Joint Stock Company “ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih” is the largest full-cycle metallurgical enterprise of the Mining and Metallurgical Complex of Ukraine, unique in its scale and opportunities, encompassing the following production plants: Coke and By-Product Plant, Mining and Benefication Complex, Mine Department for Iron-Ore Deep Mining, and Metallurgical Complex consisting of the Sinter and Blast-Furnace, Steelmaking, Rolling Process Stages. The enterprise specializes in production of reinforcing steel bars and wire rods of common and low-alloy steel grades and also makes sinter, concentrate, coke, pig iron, steel, bars and sections, blast-furnace slag. The rolled products made at the enterprise are used in all the climatic zones of the planet, and this favours the formation of the enterprise’s image as a reliable partner, which takes into account and satisfies the demands of each particular customer. Historical backgroundThe history of the integrated works started on 4 August 1934, when first pig iron was produced at blast furnace No. 1. Henceforth, industrial projects and production facilities were put into operation step-by-step: August 20, 1939 - The first Bessemer steel heat was smelted. March 31, 1949 - Blast furnace No. 1 was blown in. August 12, 1956 - Continuous light-section rolling mill 250-1 was put into operation. February 28, 1957 - Blooming mill 1250 No. 1 was hot tested. April 12, 1957 - Continuous four-strand wire rod mill 250-1 was put into operation. December 25, 1957 - The first post-war Kryviy Rih steel was obtained in the commissioned 35-ton converter. The plant became a full-cycle integrated iron-and-steel works. March 18, 1958 - The first stage of blooming mill 1150 was put into operation. December 31, 1960 - 600-t open-hearth furnace No. 1 was commissioned. 1964 - Blooming mill 1300 No.2 was commissioned. 1968 - The Chief Mechanical Engineer's Department was created. 1968 - The Railway Transportation Department of the Metallurgical Complex was created. July 8, 1972 - The first double-hearth furnace was commissioned in the Open-Hearth Furnace Shop. December 30, 1974 - Blast furnace No. 9, the world's most efficient high-capacity one, with the working volume of 5,000 m3, was blown in. Central Power Plant No.3 was commissioned together with it. 1996 - Restructuring of the integrated works started. That year the Novokryvorizkyi Mining and Benefication Complex joined the Kryviy Rih State Integrated Mining and Metallurgical Works “Kryvorizhstal” as an organization subdivision, and the Agroindustrial Complex was created. 1997 - The Coke and By-Product Plant joined the integrated works. 2001 - Mine Department for Iron-Ore Deep Mining was organized as a separate subdivision of the Integrated Works “Kryvorizhstal” on the basis of the separate production facilities of the Kirov Mine Department. Henceforth, the works has become a metallurgical enterprise with full iron-and-steel cycle, encompassing the following departments:
Beginning from 2004, the enterprise was referred to as JSC “Kryviy Rih Mining and Metallurgical Integrated Works”. In 2005 the enterprise became a member of Mittal Steel Company, and in 2007 – of ArcelorMittal Corporation. June 2007 – It was decided at the General Shareholders Meeting to change the name of the enterprise from OJSC “Mittal Steel Kryviy Rih” to OJSC “ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih”. August 11, 2008 – After the capital repair with modernization the blast furnace No 8 was blown-in with an effective capacity of 2,700 m³. June 2, 2010 – Construction of “ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih’s” first continuous casting machine (CCM) began. |
